Everyone is more health-conscious right now – especially when it comes to bugs that can infect our upper respiratory tract.

We’ve put together these recommendations – featuring three products to boost your immune system and provide protection, plus two additional products to keep handy for when you start to have symptoms of a cough or cold.

Our recommendations for protection:

Our recommendations when you're not well:

1. PROBIOTIC LOZENGES

Extra strength probiotic protection for the mouth and throat
Whether you are wanting to avoid winter ills or someone nearby is coughing and spluttering, there are times when you really want to give your defences a bit more of a boost.

More than just good for your gut. You’ve probably heard of probiotics for the gut, but did you know these helpful communities live everywhere on your body, inside and out? Probiotics can add back the helpful bacteria. They also boost the level of immune cells in the mucous membranes of the body.

Probiotics (pro = for, bios = life) are beneficial live bacteria that help the body crowd out bad bacteria.

BLIS ThroatGuard PRO

This is an advanced oral probiotic that helps defend against bad bacteria in the mouth and throat. Each lozenge contains high dose of BLIS K12™  so in times of high need you know you are giving yourself the very best probiotic throat protection you can get.

2. VITAMIN C

One of the main reasons people take vitamin C supplements is to boost their immunity. Vitamin C is involved in many parts of the immune system. It helps encourage the production of white blood cells known as lymphocytes and phagocytes, which help protect the body against infections. By helping white blood cells function more effectively Vitamin C can strengthen your skin’s defence system and help wounds to heal faster.

Because Vitamin C is water soluble it is quickly excreted from the body. Therefore to maintain high levels of Vitamin C in the body you should take repeated doses several times a day. While the minimum daily dose required to prevent a deficiency disease like scurvy is small (just 50mg per day) many people take a daily dose of 1000mg and use this dose two or three times per day to boost their body’s immune system against infections.

3. VITAMIN D

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is an oil soluble vitamin found in oily fish, fish liver oil and egg yolks.

Every cell in your body has a receptor for vitamin D. This vitamin is involved in many processes, including bone health, immune system function and protection against cancer.  D3 is the more powerful of the two types, and raises blood levels of vitamin D almost twice as much as D2.

Large amounts of vitamin D can also be made in your skin when it is exposed to UV-rays from sunlight. Daily exposure to sunlight for 30 minutes to 2 hours can provide all the Vitamin D your body needs – but this can be difficult to achieve in winter and for people with dark skins. Any excess vitamin D is stored in your body fat for later use.

5. HERBAL IMMUNE BOOST - Olive Leaf Extract

Olive leaves have been traditionally used to enhance the functioning of the immune system and aid the management of viral infections, especially when fever is present. Taking olive leaf extract may be an important measure for supporting your immune system and helping reduce your likelihood of being affected by colds and the flu this winter.

Olive Leaf Extract has a higher antioxidant power than many of the traditional cold and flu season supplements. Research has identified the olive leaf as the most powerful antioxidant of 55 medicinal herbs.
